Congressional hearing in Washington DC on the Human Rights Crisis in Papua and West Papua

August 28, 2010

Dear West Papua Action Network members:

We need your help! In a few weeks, September 22nd, 2010, there is to be a congressional hearing in Washington DC on the Human Rights Crisis in Papua and West Papua (http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=hr111-1355).

Two of the principle people called to testify at this Congressional Hearing September 22nd, 2010, in Washington DC are West Papua Action Network members; Octovianus Mote, a Papuan refugee and expert of West Papua, and Eben Kirksey, PhD, a US expert on West Papua. Also testifying will be, Pieter Drooglever, author of “An Act of Free Choice”, and Sophie Richardson, PhD, of Human Rights Watch.

Conversations with Octovianus have identified three key areas that we can all help make this historic day and step towards West Papuan justice a real success.

1. Please make a donation! $10, or $25 dollars will go a long way. All donations made between now and September 22, 2010, will go specifically towards expenses and events to be held in Washington DC as part of the congressional hearing.

Donate Here Or on Causes.com/WPAN

2. If you live in the USA, then have your Member of Congress support the “H.Res.1355: Expresses the sense of the House of Representatives regarding human rights measures that the government of Indonesia should take with respect Papua and West Papua."

3. If you plan to be in Washington DC the week of September 22nd, 2010, and would like to participate in some of the events supporting West Papua … please email us and we will forward you details as they are confirmed.

Thank you,

West Papua Action Network, USA.
